How Sudoku works
A Sudoku grid has nine rows, nine columns and nine outlined boxes of three by three squares. Some squares already hold a number. Your job is to fill the rest so that every row, every column and every box contains the digits 1 through 9 exactly once. The digits are only symbols, so there is no arithmetic involved.
What makes these puzzles easy to read
Each grid fills most of a Letter page, with bold numbers and a heavy outline around every 3 by 3 box so the structure is easy to see. Choose the one-per-page PDF for the largest numbers and the most room for pencil notes, or the four-per-page PDF when you want to save paper and a smaller grid suits you.
How we check every puzzle
The puzzles are generated by a program and then tested. A solver counts the solutions of each grid and the puzzle is only kept if there is exactly one, so you never need to guess. Our levels are measured by the number of given numbers, shown above. They are a practical guide, not a formal difficulty rating, so two puzzles at the same level can feel different.
