Quilting Word Search (Large Print)

A quilt can begin with a small square and grow one block at a time. This word search follows that work through fabric pieces, layers, tools, and finishing details. It is a natural companion to a quilt display or a sewing circle, but readers do not need to know a named pattern to participate. The vocabulary offers plenty of everyday shapes and materials.

US Letter, one puzzle page and one answer page. Easy level.

Playing tips and a fun fact

Search for BLOCK, PATCH, and STRIP before moving to the layers. Keeping a little group of related words in mind may help you scan without jumping around the list. If you are hosting, invite participants to describe a color combination rather than asking whether they have made a quilt. Admiring a craft is a perfectly good way to join in.

A typical quilt has a top, an inner layer called batting, and a backing, held together with stitching. Those layers explain several of the longer words on the page. After the puzzle, draw a four-square block and repeat it across scrap paper, changing the shading to see how a larger pattern appears.

Ideas to extend the activity

  • Draw a repeating four-square block.
  • Choose two fabric colors on paper.
  • Label the three layers of a quilt.
